Significance
The intramolecular [4+2] cycloaddition provides products that are either 5,6- or 6,6-fused ring systems which are highly useful in the synthesis of many natural products and intermediates. Several Rh catalysts are available for this type of reaction but only a few are highly enantioselective. The function of the diene on the pre-catalyst has since been overlooked and is evaluated in this paper.
