Significance

Here the authors report a new type of axially chiral guanidine catalyst 1 for the highly enantioselective electrophilic amination of unsymmetrically substituted 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds. With 0.05-2 mol% of catalyst 1, good to excellent yields (54% to >99%) and high enantioselectivities (er = 81:19 to 99:1) are obtained for different cyclic and acyclic 1,3-dicarbonyl compounds.
