Significance

Wegner and co-workers reported for the first time the syntheses of oligoindenopyrenes, a new class of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons. Pd-catalyzed Suzuki-Heck coupling cascade reactions produced di- to tetraindenopyrenes (1-4) starting from appropriate bromopyrenes. Although the yields are low, 4 is remarkably robust and highly colored.
