Significance
The authors recently reported on the use of the ligands developed by Tietze and coworkers, HETPHOX (L. F. Tietze, J. K. Lohmann Synlett 2002, 2083-2085), in asymmetric intermolecular Heck reactions (Synlett 2004, 106-110). In the present paper, they focus on the synthesis of enantioenriched spirooxindoles using an intramolecular Heck cyclization.
