Significance

This publication describes a new method for the preparation of ketones by the reaction of N-acylbenzotriazoles and organomagnesium or organolithium compounds. N-Acylbenzotriazoles are stable crystalline intermediates which can be easily prepared from the corresponding acids. They offer an effective replacement for acyl chlorides, which are sometimes unstable and difficult to prepare. The reaction is sufficiently general and affords a broad variety of functionalized ketones, using a quite simple experimental protocol.
