Significance

A novel dithiinoquinoxaline-functionalized terthiophene 1 was prepared and its non-planar structure was indicated by single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. The electrochemically prepared polymer 2 was carefully examined by absorption spectroscopy and spectroelectrochemistry. This polythiophene exhibited fast-switching property, which was attributed to the enhanced diffusion of anions through loosely packed polymer chains, owing to the non-planar structure of the dithiin-ring unit.
