Significance

The authors synthesize a fluorescent, squaraine-functionalized azo dye (AzoSQ) and investigate its application in holographic data storage. Upon irradiation at 488 nm, AzoSQ was found to produce a fluorescent pattern (with up to 10% contrast) due to photoinduced molecular migration.
