Significance

Since the first report by Takaya and co-workers on chiral phosphane-phosphite ligands (J. Am. Chem Soc. 1993 , 115, 7033-7034), significant efforts have been directed towards the development of new enantioselective transformations promoted by these ligands. In the present paper, the authors modify a ligand recently used in the hydrogenation of dimethyl itaconate (A. Suárez et al. Organometallics 2002, 21, 4611-4621) and apply it in the rhodium-catalyzed hydrogenation of enol ester phophonates.
