Significance

After the first report of a Lewis acid catalyzed enantioselective Diels-Alder reaction by Koga and co-workers (Chem. Commun. 1979, 437-438), extensive interest has been focused on improving the diastereo- and enantioselectivity of this reaction by changing the metal or the ligand. Herein, the authors apply their ‘one-point-bonding‘ ruthenium catalyst (Angew. Chem. Int. Ed. 1999, 38, 1220-1223) to new dienophiles.
