Significance

The authors report an unconventional synthesis of tetracene derivatives through the cyclization of ortho-diallene intermediates. They also report a one-pot synthesis of tetracene sulfoxide 3 (R1 = R2 = H) from the dialdehyde and lithium phenyl acetylide in 22% yield.
