Significance

A series of polystyrene (PS) resin-supported palladium-triarylphosphine complexes were prepared. Various bis(substituted aryl)chlorophosphines 2a-j were prepared from the corresponding aryl bromide through metallation (Grignard or lithiation) and subsequent phosphorus substitution. The reaction of lithium phosphides of 2 with the Merrifield resin (Cl residue: 0.86 mmol/g) afforded PS-supported triarylphosphines 3. The catalytic potential of the resin-supported palladium-triarylphosphine complexes 4, which were generated from 3 and Pd(PPh3)4, were examined for the Suzuki-Miyaura coupling, the Sonogashira coupling, and Heck reactions.
