Significance

(±)-Indatraline can be used to prevent chronic stimulant abuse by substituting the methamphetamine-like stimulants. The salient feature of the synthesis is an iodine(III)-mediated diastereoselective ring contraction of 1,2-dihydronaphthalene A to form the indane derivative D.
