Significance
This paper describes a palladium-catalyzed cyclization reaction to generate chiral tetrahydropyran systems. A 2,2,6-tetrahydropyran as well as a spiropyran is generated with complete transfer of chirality. These classes of pyran molecules are highly prevalent in natural products and are biologically important targets.
