Significance
The most significant feature of the catalytic system presented in this paper is the possibility of obtaining selectively both enantiomers of nitroalcohols by using different ligands with the same stereochemical pattern. Ligands used are prepared in a single step starting from inexpensive, commercial material. Overall, the methodology can be successfully applied to a number of aromatic and aliphatic aldehydes without exclusion of air or moisture.
