Significance

The enantioselective addition of isonitriles to activated carbonyls remains challenging despite many nonchiral examples in Passerini or Ugi multicomponent reactions. The Al(salen) complex catalyzes the enantioselective addition of isocyanides to aldehydes and affords substituted α-chiral aminooxazoles in good yields and moderate to good enantioselectivities.
