Conjugated Polymers Bearing Unusual 10 Aromatics

Significance

In this paper, the authors report syntheses of methano[10]annulene-bearing extended π-systems 2-4 from 2,7-dibromo meth­ano[10]annulene (1). These molecules were studied in comparison to their counterparts bearing naphthalene in place of the methano[10]annulene units (5-7). Results from the studies suggest that these bridged annulene moieties facilitate charge delocalization relative to their naphthalene-substituted counterparts.
