Significance

An organocatalytic dynamic kinetic resolution of hemiaminals has been developed. Chiral DMAP catalyst 1 was found to be effective for this reaction. tert-Butyl methyl ether was the optimal solvent for this reaction and isobutyric anhydride was the acylating reagent. With 1 mol% of catalyst 1, excellent yields (95-99%) and good to high enantioselectivities (er = 83:17 to 94:6) were obtained for different hemiaminals.
