Significance
Catalytic carbonylative ring opening of epoxides is an atom-efficient reaction, giving rise to highly valuable products. While this chemistry is extensively used in industry, the present publication describes one of the first protocols, allowing the application of this useful process on lab scale without the need of complicated high-pressure equipment. This reaction tolerates many functional groups. Enantiopure oxiranes afford products with a complete conservation of chirality.
