Summary

The authors describe the measurement of lens opacification using a new photopapillometer. This instrument is mounted on the accessory shoe of the normal slit-lamp and, like the first, fundus camera-mounted photopapillometer, measures the ability of the ocular media to transfer contrast by determining the ratio of relative brightness values of two locations on the retina. Initial experience and impressions gained in routine use, as well as the clinical significance of such measurements, are discussed.
