Cranio-spinal Fasciitis in Infancy¹

Abstract

Two infants with very large, rapidly growing vascular tumours of the back are presented, one in the occipital region and one in region of the lumbo sacral spine. In both, malignant soft tissue tumours were diagnosed on clinical grounds. Histological examination of both tumours showed them to be benign and the difficulty of histopathological assessment is discussed. Both tumours were totally excised, with difficulty, and the follow-up studies confirm the benign nature of the tumours.

Zusammenfassung

Zwei Kinder mit sehr großem, rasch wachsendem Gefäßtumor im Bereiche der Okzipitalregion und der lumbo-sakralen Dornfortsätze werden beschrieben. Bei beiden wurde zunächst klinisch ein maligner Weichteiltumor diagnostiziert. Die histologische Untersuchung beider Tumoren zeigte jedoch, daß es sich um benigne Geschwülste handelte. Die Schwierigkeiten der histo-pathologischen Diagnose werden diskutiert. Beide Tumoren konnten, wenn auch mit Schwierigkeiten, total exstirpiert werden. Nachuntersuchungen bestätigen die benigne Natur der Tumoren.
