Significance

Cephalotaxine is a member of a class of cytotoxic alkaloids isolated from Asian plum yews. Certain ester derivatives of cephalotaxine show antileukemic activity. The focal step of this relatively concise synthesis is the construction of two rings via a radical cascade (FG).
