Significance

A cis-cyclopropane-based amino alcohol was used as catalyst in dimethylzinc-mediated addition of phenylacetylene and methyl propiolate to aldehydes. With aromatic aldehydes high enantioselectivities of propargylic alcohols were achieved. Aliphatic aldehydes provided less enantioselective products.
