Significance

Trisubstituted cyclopropanols and 2,3-disubstituted cyclobutanones are valuable synthetic intermediates and can be found in biologically active compounds. The authors demonstrate the utility of 1,1-heterobimetallic reagents in the highly stereoselective preparation of such compounds and succeed in the concise synthesis of Quercus lactones A and B. The authors’ approach has addressed many of the difficulties ­associated with the stereoselective preparation of compounds in these classes.
