Significance

Hepatitis C virus infects over 3% of the world population and is one of the leading causes of chronic liver diseases. The target molecule is a potent and selective inhibitor of HCV polymerase, an enzyme that plays a vital role in virus replication, and has entered human clinical trials in patients infected with genotype 1 hepatitis C virus.
