Significance

(+)-Peloruside A is a metabolite of a sponge from the genus Mycale. It displays nanomolar cytotoxicity towards P388 murine leukemia cells. Its potency is similar to paclitaxel. The synthesis depicted is the 4th to date and makes efficient use of two 1,5-anti-directed aldol reactions.
