Significance

The triterpene polyether (+)-oma-ezakianol was isolated from the red alga Laurencia omaezakiana Masuda. The relative and absolute structure was predicted by comparison with related compounds. Herein the first asymmetric total synthesis of (+)-omaezakianol is reported, confirming the predicted structure.
