Significance

The authors describe the synthesis of a series of very large cyclic oligothiophenes (6a-f) containing up to 35 thiophene units in a total yield of 57% in the final reaction. A very important step in the synthesis is the use of platinum as a template for the cyclization and as a reactive center for the following reductive elimination.
