Significance

After previous work on catalytic asymmetric 1,4-diboration of 1,3-dienes (J. Am. Chem. Soc. 2009, 131, 9134), enantioselective 1,2-diboration of terminal alkenes with platinum complexes was developed in the same group. Platinum chiral phosphonite ligand complexes are able to provide excellent yields and enantioselectivities for various terminal olefin substrates. The diborane products are subjected to further transformations to furnish many useful enantiomer-enriched compounds.
