Oxidation of Internal Alkynes with PdCl2/CuCl2 in PEG-H2O

Significance

PdCl2/CuCl2 promoted the oxidation of internal alkynes 1 in PEG-H2O to afford the corresponding 1,2-diketones 2 in up to 87% yield (9 examples, eq. 1). The oxidation of internal alkynes followed by the subsequent treatment with 1,2-diaminobenzene gave the corresponding quinoxalines 3 in up to 81% yield (4 examples, eq. 2).
