Significance

Streptolydigin is a highly potent broad-spectrum antibiotic isolated from Strep­tomyces lydicus. It displays inhibitory activity against bacterial RNA polymerase with a distinct mode of action compared with the rifamycins that are commonly used to treat tuberculosis.
