Significance

The preparation of enantiomerically pure propargyl alcohols is an important task since they are useful and versatile building blocks in organic synthesis. Herein, the authors describe the first example of an asymmetric chromium-catalyzed alkynylation of aldehydes 1 with 1-haloalkynes 2 towards chiral propargylic alcohols of type 3 in high yields and good to excellent enantioselectivities (up to 92% ee).
