Significance

A novel class of dipeptide-derived chiral phosphine catalysts has been developed. Phosphine 3 was demonstrated to be an efficient catalyst for [3+2] cycloaddition of allene 2 with α-substituted acrylates 1. Cyclopentenes 4 containing quaternary stereogenic centers were obtained in high yields with enantiomeric ratios of around 95:5.
