Significance

The indole scaffold is an important substructure in numerous biologically active natural products and pharmaceutically relevant targets. In particular, transition-metal-catalyzed direct functionalizations using reactive carbene intermediates are powerful strategies to achieve a selective modification of indoles. Herein, a rhodium-catalyzed and enantioselective C-H functionalization of indoles of type 1 by diazo compounds is described.
