Significance

Catalytic addition reactions of substrates, such as XCN to carbon-carbon multiple bonds are useful transformations to enable atom economic 1,2-functionalizations. In this communication a regio- and stereoselective bromocyanation approach of alkynes 1 towards (Z)-β-bromo­acrylonitriles 3 using BrCN and catalytic amounts of gallium(III) chloride is described.
