Semihydrogenation of Alkynes with a Pd/SiO2-DMSO Catalyst

Significance
Silica-supported palladium nanoparticles (Pd/SiO2 NPs) were prepared by mixing [Pd(NH3)4]˙H2O and silica gel followed by treatment with ethanol (eq.1). Pd/SiO2 NPs catalyzed the semihydrogenation of alkynes to afford the corresponding alkenes in 97-99% yield with high Z-selectivity (15 examples, eq. 2).
