Significance

The Merrifield resin immobilized phenanthroline-Cu(I) complex 3 was prepared according to eq. 1. Complex 3 catalyzed the tandem addition-substitution reaction of 2-haloanilines 4 with isothiocyanates 5 to give the corresponding 2-amino-benzothiazoles 6 in 52-95% yield (21 examples).
