Significance

SMA/SiO2 (SMA: silicomolybdic acid) was applied to the Hosomi-Sakurai allylation. The reaction of carbonyl compounds 1 with allyltrimethylsilane and benzyl alcohol gave the corresponding homoallylic benzyl ethers 2 in 30-99% yield (30 examples). The reaction of acetals, ketals and acylals (3, 8 examples) with allyltrimethylsilane were also examined under similar conditions.
