Significance
Stereoselectivity in polyketide synthesis is usually achieved via stepwise carbonyl addition reactions. These strategies revolve around chiral auxiliaries, chiral catalysts/reagents, and premetalated nucleophiles. The authors present an elegant and powerful strategy (using alcohols as precursors to aldehydes) that helps advance the field.
