Significance

Chiral amines are immensely important functional groups found in many natural products and pharmaceuticals. Rhodium-catalyzed enantioselective arylation of aryl imines has become an efficient method for preparing α-arylamines. The use of alkyl imines is much less well developed, due to their instability and tendency to undergo imine-enamine tautomerization. In the present communication, the authors disclose a highly enantioselective arylation of aliphatic aldimines using a chiral rhodium-diene complex. Excellent yields and enantioselectivities are obtained.
