Synthesis of Peptides by Aminolysis of Nitrophenyl Esters.
Nature 1955;

Key words
dipeptides - nitrophenyl esters - ethyl glycinate
Significance
Peptide-bond formation is extremely important in peptide chemistry. In 1955, Bodánszky
used active nitrophenyl esters to form peptide bonds. Before this work, only nonactive
esters, such as methyl or ethyl esters, were used in peptide-bond formation.
Comment
The author gave several examples dipeptide synthesis from active amino acid esters.
Nitrophenyl esters gave much better results than thiophenyl esters.
