Abstract

This twin case study investigates the use of communication strategies by the typically developing English-Polish bilingual child and his twin brother with developmental language disorder (DLD) aged 6;8, 7;9 and 8;6. The child with DLD used more communications strategies in both languages, which reflects his lower lexical knowledge. Furthermore, the children differed in their use of codeshifting, circumlocution and word coinage. The results are discussed in the context of language competence, pragmatics and Theory of Mind.

Fazit
