Significance

Phenylacetic hydrazide which was chemically synthesized on PEGA1900 or PEGA+ (Chem. Commun. 2003, 1296-1297) was enzymatically hydrolyzed at room temperature (24 h) by penicillin G amidase (PGA) to release phenylacetic acid. Release of phenylacetic acid from PEGA+-bound phenylacetic hydrazide in 0.01 M Kpi buffer was almost 60%, while that from PEGA1900-bound phenylacetic hydrazide was 20%.
