Significance

A one-pot, regiospecific Schmidt reaction for the synthesis of substituted pyrroles from homopropargyl azides is reported. The reactions proceed under mild conditions and with good yields (41-93%). Starting from primary or secondary azides, 2- and 2,5-substituted pyrroles are obtained. This synthesis was also shown to be applicable to aryl R2 substrates with electronically poor and rich substituents.
