Significance
The authors have reported the oxidation of alcohols to aldehydes and ketones using potassium hexacyanoferrate mediated by a nitroxyl radical polystyrene resin (TEMPO PS resin) under organic-aqueous two-phase conditions. The starting alcohol was treated with K3Fe(CN)6 (2.5 mol equiv) and 2,6-lutidine (1 mol equiv) in the presence of 15 mol% of TEMPO PS resin to give corresponding aldehydes or ketones in 24-98% yield (18 examples). The oxidation reaction of 1-octanol in the presence of 2-octanol (1:1) gave 1-octanone in 98% yield without formation of 2-octanone.
