Significance

(-)-7-Demethylpiericidin A1 is a member of the piercidin class of pyridine-containing antibiotics. In this total synthesis, the Phillips group demonstrates the use of a highly diastereo­selective Ti(II)-mediated cyclization of a (silyoxy)­enyne to assemble the polyene chain present in the natural product.
