Significance

(+)-Cylindramide is a tetramic acid-containing macrolactam isolated from the sponge Halichondria cylindrata that has cytotoxic and anti-microbial properties. Hart and Phillips use a tandem ring-opening ring-closing cross-metathesis reaction as the focal point of their total synthesis.
