Significance

Pyranicin and pyragonicin are annonaceous acetogonins that exhibit potent anti-microbial, pesticidal and cytotoxic properties. Rein and co-workers describe convergent and stereoselective total syntheses of both pyranicin and pyragonicin in which the meso-aldehyde A was desymmetrized by an asymmetric Still-Gennari olefination reaction.
