Significance

The synthesis of a series of β-azido ketones 2 starting from α,β-unsaturated ketones 1 were described. Thus, the azidation of α,β-unsaturated ketones 1 with 1.1-3.0 equiv of TMSN3 in the presence of 0.1-0.5 molar equiv of Amberlite IRA900F as a polymer-supported organocatalyst at 30-60 °C gave the corresponding β-azido ketones 2 in 60-95% yield under solvent-free conditions. After the reaction, the catalyst can be recovered by simple filtration and reused in four runs affording similar results in terms of the reaction time and the isolated yield.
