Significance

Pure red-emitting bifunctional Ir(III) complexes with triphenylamine dendrons 5 and 6 have been synthesized and compared with the parent compound 4. A substantial increase of photoluminescence intensity with increasing dendritic generation was observed, indicating that the self-quenching of the triplet emission core is effectively blocked by the dendritic structures. The electroluminescence (EL) efficiencies based on these metallodendrimers are some of the highest ever reported for solution-processed devices and are comparable to those of vacuum-deposited devices.
