Significance

(+)-Gliocladin C is a marine indole alkaloid that displays cytotoxic activity in leukemia assays. This synthesis, which relies on a Mukaiyama aldol reaction to install the difficult C3-indolyl stereocenter, established the absolute configuration of the natural product.
